A final stage of the UK school program. For students who plan to continue their education at the University level.
General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE Advanced Level) or A-level – is a school graduation qualification awarded to students completing a 2-year program. A-levels are equivalent to Russian EGE exams are sufficient for direct entrance to the UK universities and universities in over 40 other countries.
A-level program is split over 2 years – AS and A2 or Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth. In order to obtain a full A-level qualification students take 4 to 6 modules for each subject with a separate exam for each module. Grades vary from A* to U. Top universities would usually expect a successful applicant to have AAA results, with conditional offers by Russell group universities starting at BBB. Subject choice depends upon student’s university plans. Students who plan to study IT would typically pick Physics and Mathematics or Further Mathematics, while those wishing to study Medicine will need Biology and Chemistry.
